Hoover Sound – Part I

Today we want to show you how to produce a great, slightly distorted hoover sound with the freeware VST Subduer. What you hear, is what you get if you follow the steps below:

First of all, download Subduer, then start to set up the basic sound as shown below…

- Smaller adjustments in the mix
- shortened melody to 4 bars. version 1 had an impair count of 5 bars.
- 70 BPM (2 BPM slower than prevoius version)
- Adjusted note lenghts (bassline & strings)
- rough arrangement
- added additional D&B beat at the end for testing. I kinda like it atm.
- new synth, intentionally hardly hearable. Not sure about this one.
- run-of-the-mill mastering
- Bass may sound a bit harsh. Overall a bit overdriven but in nice contrast to the strings (especially in the break)
- Uploading Version 2.0 to Soundcloud

The ugly beast – SubDuer Freeware VST

Today we want to introduce a fantastic freeware VST called SubDuer, a triple oscillator subtractive synth. This VST works fine even on older PCs but lacks – and this is my personal opinion – a bit in terms of a modern user interface design and usability. This VST was developed by Majken and does a fucking great job in some of our latest tracks.

Listen to J. Lindenthal and R. Russino – Terrible Roar released on Artillery Records for instance and especially pay attention to these massive warm and detuned brass.

Don´t hesitate, immediately start downloading this great piece of free software and discover the various capabilities.

RME Audio – New drivers for HDSP cards

Actually the drivers aren´t that new, but I personally missed to update my system in the past. Well, I´m totally happy with the new drivers, especially because they allow me to use the new DIGICheck in version 5.0, RME’s unique tool for live digital audio analysis. Beside the new features, the HDSP Mixer looks far better than the old version. Reason enough to update, don´t you think?

btw. If you own one of these great RME HDSP cards, don´t forget to download the latest Flash Update Tool from the RME website, update your hardware first and then point to the directory where you placed the new drivers.

Luzifer unterwegs in Amerika

Nach langer Zeit mal wieder ein Blog-Post – offtopic – aber eine Bereicherung für die Kategorie Masterminds. Beim durchstöbern des Bücherregals fiel mir das Büchlein “Neue Streichholzbriefe” von Umberto Eco (dtv) in die Hände. Daraus möchte – den Rauchern gewidmet – den letzten Absatz aus einer seiner Kolumnen zitieren:

[...], in saubere Kleider gehüllt, saß ich abends beim Dinner im feinen Salon eines Faculty-Clubs zwischen gutgekleideten Professoren mit gepflegter Sprache. Am Ende fragte ich, ob man hier irgendwo rauchen könne. Ein Moment Schweigen und verlegenes Lächeln, dann machte jemand die Türen zu, eine Dame zog ein Päckchen Zigaretten aus der Handtasche, andere plünderten meines. Komplizenhafte Blicke, unterdrücktes Glucksen wie im Dunkel eines Striptease-Lokals. Es waren zehn Minuten wonnevoller, zitternd genossener Übertretung. Ich war Luzifer, ich kam aus der Welt der Finsternis und leuchtete ihnen mit der Fackel der Sünde.
